Deck, Stairs & Railing Build
A new raised back deck with stairs, railings and balusters, built from framing to finished stain.
The request
The back door of this home sat high above the yard with no safe way in and out. The homeowners needed a sturdy landing deck with stairs and railings.
Work completed
- Posts & framing: Support posts were set on concrete deck footings and the platform was framed level at the height of the back door.
- Decking & stairs: Deck boards were fastened down and a set of stairs was built from the deck to the yard.
- Railings & balusters: Railings were added around the open sides of the deck and down both sides of the stairs, with evenly spaced balusters.
- Finish coat: The whole deck, stairs and railings were coated in a tan finish to protect the wood and match the siding.
Result
A solid, finished back deck with safe stairs and railings — the back door is now easy and safe to use.

Stairs and railings are where decks most often fail safety-wise. Even stair risers, a graspable handrail and tightly spaced balusters make a deck safe for kids and guests. A protective stain or solid finish keeps pressure-treated wood from cracking and graying in Kentucky weather.

Should a new pressure-treated deck be stained?
Yes. A stain or solid finish protects it from sun and moisture; we'll advise on timing for your wood.
